Day 3 Swiss Open 2009

Unfortunatly today I was not able to see any of the men’s singles since my flight in the evening conflicted with every match I wanted to see. On top of that I had a 4 hour delay which means I COULD have seen many of the matches! No luck.
However the two top seeds Chong Wei Lee (Malaysia) and Lin Dan (China) have cruised into the quarter finals. I am happy to see some different faces in the quarter finals such as Andrew Smith (England),Jan O Jorgensen (Denmark) and Yu Hsien Hsieh (Chinese Taipei). It adds that extra flavour when different names and countries make it to the later stages of the tournament:) I think the match that I would have loved to watch was Taufik Hidayat (Indonesia) vs Weijie Gong (China). Of course Taufik for his absolut brilliance on the court but also I believe that Gong is supposed to be China’s next big guy. It seemed like a long hard faught match with Taufik pulling through in the end. I guess when you win an Olympic gold medal and a World Championships back to back it gives you that experience and confidence you need to pull through:) The match I will be looking out for will be Jan O Jorgensen (Denmark) against Sairul Amar AYOB (Malaysia). I think that will be a fun one and will put a new face in the semi-finals!
