The first rounds of the Singapore Super Series were on their way today and as usual there were some spectacular matches! I was able to watch all the games and as you may know I have my favorites:) I very much enjoyed watching Marc Zwiebler (Germany) and Rajiv Ouseph (England). Since I was sitting with the English players I was obliged to take sides:) The match up was interesting since Zwiebler is player who has many tricks up his sleeve as well as very good speed. Ouseph is a smooth and deceptive player who has a very good feel for the game. The German came out firing in the first game and was playing with too much pace and was able to play the wind with better success. The next game Rajiv was the one controlling the wind and pinning Zwiebler on the back line and won 21-15. In the third it was the Englishman leading for the most part but it was a battle to the end. Ouseph had a few lucky breaks by smashing it on the tape and the shuttle landing on the Germans side. However it was not luck that sealed the deal for Rajiv and he ended up winning 13-21 21-15 21-16.
My second favorite match was between Jan O Jorgensen (Denmark) and Kazushi YAMADA (Japan). In this match i believed that Jan was going to win relatively handily however Yamada had other things in mind. The Japanese player took the first set 21-17 and was looking like he was going to also take the second but Jorgensen really stayed tough and fought it out to win 21-19. In the third it was the Dane who was leading the whole time but the Japanese was a true fighter and NEVER gave up until the very last point. Jan O Jorgensen ended up winning as I had thought but it was a high flying, hard smashing, flat driving match. Very exciting. The final score was 17-21 21-19 21-15 for the Dane.
The matches that I will look out for tomorrow will be Bao Chunlai (China) and Choong Hann WONG (Malaysia) as well as Yu Hsing HSIEH (Chinese Taipei) and Sony Dwi KUNCORO (Indonesia).
See you then!!

This is an amazing victory for Rajiv and England.
