This past weekend our club Lyngby had two team matches, one for the second team and one for the first team. Our second team was playing against my old club Gladsaxe Badminton Klub on Saturday. It was nice to catch up with some of the players I once practiced with my first year in Denmark. It was also nice that our second team was able to win the team match 8-5 on our home courts. However I will say that we really had to fight for a few of these games or else it could have been 5-8 for our opponents.
On Sunday our first team was playing against Skovshoved Badminton Klub or better known as S.I.F. We had to play them on their home ground which I can tell you makes a huge difference. Anytime you play away you probably have to take at least 10-15% off of your level of play. We started off the team match with two mixed doubles and two ladies singles and came out even at 2-2. Then it was the next 4 matches which were all men’s singles. I won my match 21-15 21-14 and Kaveh Mehrabi also won his match but we lost the other two. So that meant 4-4. At this point we were VERY nervous because now it was anyones game. The matches were the ladies doubles…and let me tell you that i have never been SOO into a ladies doubles in my life!! Our first ladies doubles was down in the first set 21-17 but managed to storm back to win 22-20..our second ladies doubles also won their first set with relative ease. But THEN both teams lost the second set pretty convincingly!! WE could NOT afford to lose both ladies doubles. So the second ladies doubles pulled up their socks and won the third set, that was great. Then our first ladies doubles was trailing the whole way through the set…they were down 11-7…15-11….18-14….and then once again made an awesome comeback to win 21-18!! I can tell you that I was jumping for joy because that meant if we win two men’s doubles (out of a possible 3) we win the team match.
So all the boys got together and decided that we have to get the victory. I took it to heart and won our doubles quite comfortably. That meant all we need is one more doubles. But our third men’s doubles lost! So all the pressure was on our second men’s doubles who were battling it out in three sets. After 11-10 our team made an awesome run of points through sheer determination and took the set and the match 21-15. That meant we won 8-5….but let me tell you I was a nervous wreck throughout the whole ordeal.
Our next team match will be against Frederiksberg badminton klub on the 31st of October. Hopefully my team won’t have to put me through that emotional rollercoaster to win.
